Two weeks ago, my (one and only) fitting pair of maternity jeans started to slowly rip right next to the back pocket. It looked totally fine when they were off me, but the rip was pretty obvious when they were on me. I had hoped to make it to capri-pants season without having to purchase another pair of jeans, but in this case - with my unmentionables peeking through - I went and bought a newSonjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05796926184965080509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380237841271056762.post-68235758641261047262012-02-25T22:39:00.003-08:002012-02-25T22:56:23.602-08:00crafties
I've been doing some knitting. This cap (still needs to have the ends woven in and ties added, but let's call it finished just for now) was one of those troubled projects... first, I had to do all sorts of fancy math to get the gauge right. Then, I made a mistake and decided to start over (but that happened all of 15 rows into it, so it wasn't such a grave loss). Then I made another mistake Sonjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05796926184965080509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380237841271056762.post-6795887585532236472012-01-14T03:12:00.001-08:002012-01-14T03:15:04.456-08:00fabric buckets
When I need a birthday gift for a small person, I usually end up asking the parents for gift inspiration. It makes my life easier, but it also ensures that the gift is something the child will like and be able to use.
Next week, I'm going to a first birthday party for a friend's son, and she said that they could really use some fabric storage bins for their legos.
Voila!

I saw this slouchy hat in the "First Fall" issue of knitty and knew I had to have/knit it. It was so much fun to work with the Noro yarn! The colors are beautiful, and the color transitions are just gorgeous. I accidentally altered the pattern a wee bit (how you do). www.bethanyactually.com took this photo of me - thanks, Bethany!
I'm being silly here, but I thought it showed the skirt I made myself last week pretty well.
I found this tutorial and was inspired to dust off my serger, thread it (!!!), and get to work. I had bought some striped knit fabric a while ago thinking that it'd be perfect for a skirt, so I used that. What I hadn't anticipated was that the roundness of the eggs, the messiness of the mod-podging, and Noah's sickness-induced lethargy would be the trifecta of anti-egg-decoratingness. We made one egg together, then he requested paint.

My mom and sister were here to visit, which helped me get unstuck with some of the projects I'd been working (or rather, NOT working) on for a while and with projects I'd been thinking about for a while.
During one of our fabric-shopping outings, Noah fell in love with a fat quarter, which of course meant I had to buy it for him. My initial plan had been to design some gift wrap with Noah - with crayons or paint or stencils or stamps etc. - but I ran out of time because the perfect gift I had envisioned turned out to be harder to find than anticipated. When I did find it, it was packaged in a plastic bucket, which I didn't really want to have to end up having to Sonjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05796926184965080509noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380237841271056762.post-78170156458576530282011-01-13T22:41:00.000-08:002011-01-13T22:42:21.664-08:00actually finished something!I had some time to sew today, and actually finished (!) not one but two projects!
Before:
warm but ugly and polyestery
After:
penguiny and flannelly, with a bonus velcro closure

I also managed to finish a coffee cup sleeve I promised a friend almost a year ago. Ahem. Well, at least it's done now, right?! Right.
cute, no?!

Our moms group held a blessingway for her where we each told her our wishes and prayers for her labor, birth, and postpartum period. I have another blog. Hmmm.I've been crafting it up a little, and my goal for December - at least until Christmas - is to do something crafty every day.On the first, I made a candy cane table runner out of one of Noah's burp cloths and red bias tape. It was a quick and dirty project, took less than 45 minutes, and was of course done to avoid doing some chores. I made a cake for the party we had at my in-laws' house. I used my new favorite cake pan from Williams Sonoma.
