labor vibes scrapbook

A few weeks ago, my friend Jamie was on the brink of having a baby. Our moms group held a blessingway for her where we each told her our wishes and prayers for her labor, birth, and postpartum period. Throughout our time together, I took pictures of us, and then each mama wrote out a little note of encouragement during labor. I took those notes home, and (with a looming deadline, ha!) put the notes and photos together in a little scrap book.
I had initially gone to Target to buy a pretty notebook to use, but all the books they had would have been too big, leaving loads of empty pages. I was considering a spiral-bound notebook that would easily allow me to remove unnecessary pages* when packages of brightly colored file folders caught my eye. A picture of a hand-made mini scrapbook I'd seen on etsy flashed through my mind, and I spontaneously decided to make my own scrapbook out of those file folders.
I hit a few snags (e.g. when I realized that the scrapbook I wanted to emulate was made out of brown paper bags, not file folders), but it turned out great. See:

*This was a no-go because I didn't want to have a big spiral with a few pages on it... What, anal, me?! Ha!

March/April Tie One On - finished!

I've mentioned before how unsatisfying this project was. The most frustrating part was trying to take a picture of me wearing the apron. I tried different outfits, different angles, different kinds of lighting, different photographers, indoors, outdoors - nothing worked. And so I give you this mosaic of close-ups instead.
Here's to hoping the next apron won't be such a challenge!

flickr love

My latest fascinations are groups on flickr. I ACCIDENTALLY clicked on the "groups" drop-down menu and found out that you can search for groups. So I searched for "fat quarters" and found... the Fat Quarter Challenge (see button in sidebar). Next, I added my chickens to the Chicken Art pool and my headband to the Hooray for Headbands pool.
To go with my two blogs, I also have two flickr accounts (well, I actually have three, but never you mind!). For my Other Account, I found a Death Valley group where I could add my snapshots from last year's trip and just now, I found an IKEA lovers group.
My favorite thing about flickr groups is finding new blogs - the two lovely ladies who are behind the Fat Quarter Challenge, this fellow chicken artist, and this new girl crush of mine who is a fellow IKEA lover.

PS: If you don't have a flickr account yet, you should just right now get yourself one. It's fun and free and once you sign up, you can comment on my pictures - what's not to love?!!

cluck, cluck

I spent some quality time with my sewing machine and my stash of fat quarters, and made these delightful creatures. Enjoy!
